“Ser Leirosa, Ser +” {Be Leirosa, Be More} develops children’s skills at school and during occupational activities

“Ser Leirosa, Ser +” is a project included in the Mais InterAções E6G programme, which gives support to children and families in Leirosa. The aim of this initiative which involves around 50 children, is to provide help in various areas which range from giving support in the classroom to providing holiday workshops and other initiatives to encourage the creation of family and community ties. The idea behind the initiative is to provide greater and closer integration and equal opportunities for children and youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Activities include the School for Parents, with vocational guidance sessions and in some cases adult literacy lessons (provided for Roma gypsies). This work, which involved psychologists and a children’s entertainer, is the result of a candidacy funded by an eight-body consortium headed up by Cáritas Diocesana de Coimbra charity organisation as the promoter and organiser, with Figueira da Foz City Council, Marinha das Ondas Parish Council, Agrupamento de Escolas do Paião school group, CPCJ Figueira da Foz children’s committee, and the associations Associação Novo Olhar and Associação Sentir dos Sentidos and Celbi.
