For the fourth year running, Celbi sponsored the clean-up of the beach at Leirosa, in partnership with the recreation centre Centro de Recreio Popular de Marinha das Ondas – Praia da Leirosa (CRPMO), the Marinha das Ondas Scout Group, the Cáritas Coimbra charitable institution and Laboratório Marefoz, with support from the Marinha das Ondas Parish Council. Over two hundred and fifty men, women and children took part in the initiative.
Following the success of the first three initiatives to clean up Leirosa Beach, parents, children, friends, employees of Celbi, and residents of the parish of Marinha das Ondas, of Praia da Leirosa, and of other parishes in the borough of Figueira da Foz, all came together for one cause, and over the course of one morning, in the glorious sunshine, filled an industrial container full of rubbish, made up mostly of plastic.
Once the clean-up work was done, it was time for celebration. Lunch was served at the CRPMO’s headquarters. Throughout the afternoon, dozens of children were able to learn about the importance of sand dunes, sponsored by Laboratório Marefoz, and enjoy the entertainment put on especially for the youngsters to celebrate Children’s Day.
Doing justice to its slogan “Together, on the right path”, Celbi aims to continue with this initiative which is already being called Portugal’s biggest voluntary beach clean-up, and to promote others within the surrounding community, thereby cultivating good neighbourly relations.
